Pal urges EC to issue multi-purpose cards

FORMER STATE president of Congress, Jagdambika Pal, raised objection over the proposed list of delimitation of constituencies and suggested to the Election Commission to issue multi-purpose cards instead of photo identity cards. He pointed out various shortcomings in the proposed list. He demanded that Naugrarh constituency?s name should be renamed as Kapilvastu instead of Shohratgarh.

FORMER STATE president of Congress, Jagdambika Pal, raised objection over the proposed list of delimitation of constituencies and suggested to the Election Commission to issue multi-purpose cards instead of photo identity cards.
He pointed out various shortcomings in the proposed list. He demanded that Naugrarh constituency’s name should be renamed as Kapilvastu instead of Shohratgarh. Pal strongly demanded reconsidering the proposed delimitation of the constituencies and said it should be based on development blocks instead of kanoongo circle. He reminded the EC that he had submitted the suggestions in detail but the EC took no notice of them.

Meanwhile, the delimitation commission completed the hearing of complaints over proposed de-limitation of constituencies at DDU Gorakhpur University convocation hall here. In the third and last sitting, representatives of various political parties from Basti division, expressed their views and complaints before Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami and others.

Samajwadi Party leader and minister Ram Karan Arya raised objections over attaching Alwapur areas of Ambedker Nagar constituency to Sant Kabir Nagar constituencies. He also said that Dhankata assembly segment of Sant Kabir Nagar district, which had been proposed for reserved constituency, was not justified.

Earlier, the EC took written objections over four parliamentary seats in Azamgarh division and one at Ambedkar Nagar. The leaders demanded that five Assembly seats should be attached with Ballia parliamentary constituencoes. State minister Sharda Nand Anchal raised objection over attaching two seats of Ballia district to Salempur parliamentary constituency and said the division of Ballia district into three parliamentary constituencies was highly objectionable.

BJP leader Narendra Singh said Lalganj Parliamentary seat had remained reserved for the last four decades and now it should be unreserved as various freedom fighters and social activists were unable to contest election from here.

He also raised objection over attaching Meh Nagar Assembly segment to Atraulia constituency. MLA from Tanda Aassembly segment Lalji Verma said the division of Tanda constituency and attaching some areas to Katehri constituency was against the expectations as the National Thermal Power Unit of Tanda would fall in Katehri Assembly segment.
