Parliament adjourned over Jharkhand issue
Parliament proceedings were stalled for the second day by an angry Oppn over J'khand Governor's action.
For the second consecutive day, Parliament was on Thursday stalled by agitated BJP-led NDA members who stormed the well in both Houses to protest Jharkhand Governor's action in installing the JMM-Congress government in the state.
Uproarious scenes were witnessed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha where Opposition members shouted slogans against the Congress and the UPA government while trooping into the well protesting, "murder" of democracy in Jharkhand.
In Lok Sabha, the BJP members were seen waiving a newspaper carrying the headline "Murder in Raj Bhavan" and raising slogans.
The House was earlier adjourned for 30 minutes before Devendra Prasad Yadav called it a day ten minutes after it re-assembled at 1130 am.
Rajya Sabha, which was earlier adjourned till 2 pm, was adjourned for the day after Deputy Chairman K Rehman Khan ordered tabling of papers amidst the din.
In the midst of the turmoil, Congress member Karan Singh moved the Motion of Thanks to the President for his address to Parliament on February 25.
In both the Houses, the NDA members chanted slogans like "murderers of democracy, shame, shame", "dictatorship in democracy will not be tolerated" and "supari-killer ko wapas bulao (recall the contract killer)".
In the Lok Sabha, the agitated members did not pay heed to Speaker Somnath Chatterjee's repeated pleas to maintain order.
BJP leader VK Malhotra said it was the "blackest day in the history of Indian democracy" as the Governor had sworn-in "a person who had murder cases against him in that very state".
The Speaker asked Malhotra not to drag in the Governor as it would be against the rules of Parliament.
Besides moving the Motion of Thanks, Rajya Sabha also saw the withdrawal of the Yoga Undertaking (Taking Over of Management) Bill, 1994 before it adjourned for the day.
