Partner sequel has no takers

Sohail Khan is finding it tough to get corporate backing for the comedy's sequel, Tom and Jerry. Hiren Kotwani tells more.

Even before the release of Partner, Salman Khan had revealed the team's plans to make a sequel, also with Govinda, called Tom and Jerry. It was hoped the two actors could turn it into a franchise with a series of Partner movies.

Although work on the scripting has begun, producer Sohail Khan is now finding it tough to get financial backing.



Producer woes

According to a source, Sohail had approached UTV with Main aur Mrs Khanna and Tom and Jerry, both for total sum of Rs 100 crore.



But then he tried to renegotiate with an additional project KisaanTom and Jerry is not likely to start before September 2008, maybe even later.

Directed by Puneet Sira, Kisaan is a patriotic movie featuring Sohail and Arbaaz Khan. After weighing the pros and cons, UTV declined to take on Kisaan. So the deal fell through.

After things didn't work out with UTV , Sohail went to Studio 18. The deal was locked in with Tom and Jerry and Main aur Mrs Khanna.

But once Kisaan became a part of the package, the corporate backed out too. Now, Sohail Khan is said to be in talks with Reliance Entertainment. Meanwhile, negotiations have been re-opened with UTV .

Sohail Khan did not returns calls and text messages. Siddharth Roy Kapoor of UTV said, "We are in talks with Sohail Khan for various projects. We'll talk once everything is finalised."
