Party, Govt on same page over Joint Statement: Congress

Insisting that the party and Government were on the "same page" over the Indo-Pak joint statement, Congress on Monday slammed the Opposition for "unnecessarily" raking up the issue even after a clarification by Prime Minster Manmohan Singh.
"The Prime Minister has spoken three or four times. The party President has spoken on the issue. AICC General Secretary too has spoken on it. There is complete coordination and harmony.... We are on the same page," party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters in New Delhi.
Asked whether a CWC meeting will be held to endorse the joint statement, he said, "the Congress President has already spoken. There is no need for a daily endorsement".
He hit out at the Opposition "for raking up the issue unnecessarily when the PM has made a statement and clarified the issue".
Singhvi advised the Opposition not to reiterate what has been coming from the Pakistani establishment saying "we have to believe in the statements of the Government of India.
"They (Opposition) are raising the issue for political mischief," the spokesman said.
To a query about Prime Minister Manmohan Singh taking inspiration from former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's foreign policy vis-a-vis Pakistan, he said "that is not our view or of Government of India".
