As you gear for the New Year Eve’s bash this evening, HT City offers you some pointers on how to ensure that the evening is great success.

1. Black was the colour that flooded every party in from Bollywood bashes to Page 3 dos, black was beautiful. So, opt for a little black dress, either off shoulder or a tube dress with knee-high boots or ankle boots teamed with stockings. Men can opt for black jackets, teamed with grey, silver or purple shirts.
2. If you don’t want to freeze to death, but aren’t too keen on a bulky sweater, take a stylish woolen stole, it can double up as a shawl later in the night.
3. If you don’t want to carry a big bags, try a colourful clutch. A bright, snazzy clutch will accessorise your black dress well.
4. Message or call your friends and family before the clock ticks 12 — remember how the networks get jammed on New Year’s Eve every year.
5. If you are in the mood to get drunk, inform a friend or a family member and let them know the venue of your party and give them the number of someone who is accompanying you.
6. Ensure that whoever drives you home is not drunk either.
7. Drink a lot of water or have a light meal before you start drinking. An empty stomach will get you drunk instantly. And know when to say you’ve had enough alcohol.
8. Don’t accept drinks from strangers and be cautious about what you are offered in the name of a cocktail.
