Passenger train derails in Orissa, none injured

The Kharagpur-Khurda Road fast passenger train on Thursday derailed near Retanga station, about 12 km from here, railway sources said.

The Kharagpur-Khurda Road fast passenger train on Thursday derailed near Retanga station, about 12 km from here, railway sources said.

The rear wheel of the engine and front wheel of the front guard van of the train jumped the rails between Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road stations, the sources said, adding, however, no one was injured.

Following the derailment, rail traffic was affected on the route. 2802 New Delhi-Puri Purushottam Express, 2821 Howrah-Puri Dhauli Express, 2703 Howrah-Secunderab Falaknuma Express and 8105 Rourkela-Puri Intercity Express were stranded for about four hours.

Some trains were also rescheduled. 204 Khurda Road-Kharagpur fast passenger will start its journey towards Kharagpur from Bhubaneswar instead of Khurda Road.

Similarly 209 Bhubaneswar-Khalikote passenger train will leave towards Khalikote from Khurda Road instead of Bhubaneswar.

Senior railway officials and engineers rushed to the spot to supervise the operation for restoration of train services.
