Patil missing from Mumbai north-east, claims work

Voters say he is rarely in his constituency, but this sitting MP claims to have done a lot

Voters say he is rarely in his constituency, but this sitting MP claims to have done a lot.

Many voters allege that you are inaccessible and have rarely been seen in your constituency.

It is not true. I am always accessible to people. Though there is a difference between the duties of Members of Parliament (MPs) and corporators, whenever possible, I meet them. There are certain limitations as I have to be in Delhi during Parliament sessions, but at such times I ensure that my office attends to people’s problems.

You utilised only 65% of your funds till March 2014.

Not a single penny remains of my MP fund. I have utilised 100% of it and have also brought funds of Rajya Sabha MPs and MLAs for the constituency. Fund utilisation figures in the public domain are before the final bill settlement, therefore there is confusion.

As a young MP, voters had lot of expectations from you, but they are not happy.

I don’t agree as I have done several things for the constituency. I solved the water problem in Govandi up to 70%, I tried for a 500-bed hospital in Bhandup and another one for Mulund, revamped Bhandup crematorium, solved emission issues and made it eco-friendly, built 18-19 open gymnasiums, helped self-help women’s groups, organised job fairs and built water supply tanks in hilly areas. I don’t believe in publicity and keep a low profile.

Though 65% of Mumbaiites commute by trains, city MPs have not done much for them. What did you do?

My work speaks for itself. I followed up on several issues. Pawar saheb had several meetings with railway minister and officers to solve commuters’ problems. I have been continuously insisting that the government first develop infrastructure and then allow new housing complexes. Because of my follow-up, Rs160 crore was sanctioned for upgradation of Kanjurmarg station, and the first phase has begun.
