A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was set ablaze by the kin of a girl with whom he was invoved in an affair. This gruesome incident took place at Nauranga village, under Ghatampur police station, here on Thursday.

At first, the criminals tied the hands and feet of the boy, poured kerosene over him and set him on fire. On receiving the information, his parents rushed to the spot and sent the boy to a primary health centre at Ghatampur where he died.
According to the information, Naresh (16), resident of Pahewa village, was working at New Pawan Brick field factory in Nauranga village with his father Dayashankar and mother Nanki. He was staying in the factory compound with his family members comprising three brothers and a sister.
Nanki, mother of the deceased, said Naresh was having an affair with Reena (15), resident of Pahwa village, for several years. Talking to HT, the deceased’s aunt Sridevi said Naresh and Reena, who had eloped from the village nearly one month back, returned after 15 days. “Since then, Reena was kept confined to her house by her father. We requested him several times to let them marry but the family members of Reena did not agree,” she added.
She also said Reena was being forced to marry another person in Musanagar but Naresh informed the police that a minor girl was married by her parents.
When the father and uncles of the girl, Hariprasad, Prem and Ratan came to know of it, they were looking for revenge. On Thursday morning when Naresh was going to the field, they caught hold of Naresh, tied his hands and feet, set him ablaze and escaped.
Dayashankar and Nanki with some other factory workers took the injured boy to the Ghatampur PHC where he succumbed to injuries.
When the Ghatampur SHO Shiv Pal Singh Chauhan was asked to comment on the incident, he said, “It may or may not be a murder.”
However, as the infuriated brick field workers got infuriated and made the SP (rural), the Ghatampur lodged a murder case under section 302 IPC.
Besides, Hariprasad, Prem and Ratan, the police registered a case against two other persons, Shiv Gopal and Sahab Lal who allegedly played an important role in settling Reena’s marriage with another person in Musanagar.
