The People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdul Nasser Mahdani on Friday announced that it would extend its support to the LDF in the assembly elections in Kerala.

A letter written by Mahdani, who has been in jail for the last eight years in connection with the Coimbatore blasts, offering support to LDF, was read out by the PDP working president Poonthura Siraj at the party's special convention in Thiruvananthapuram.

Mahdani's letter said the UDF, which it backed in the last assembly polls, had not fulfilled any of the promises made to them before the elections. The UDF had offered to work for Mahdani's release.

The UDF had also not done enough for the improvement of the plight of minority communities, the letter said, and urged PDP activists to work for the LDF candidates' victory.
