Anjeel Shah, a Hizbul Mujahiddin terrorist, had surrendered in 2005 but police claimed he later joined the Lashker-e-Taiba. Shah was killed in a gunbattle at Masri area of Bhaderwah tehsil in Doda on Monday.

Two grenades and a wireless set were recovered from him.

About 150 people brought Shah's body, which had been kept in a mosque at Prano during the night, on the road and blocked traffic on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The villagers claimed that the police had killed him despite Shah having surrendered to the authorities last year.
