Petition to disqualify actress Hema Malini

Congress demanded disqualification of Hema Malini from Rajya Sabha for allegedly providing "incorrect" information about her marital status.

After a local court dismissed their petition against Bollywood actor and BJP candidate from Rajasthan's Bikaner constituency Dharmendra, some Congress activists here have sent a petition to President A P J Abdul Kalam demanding disqualification of actress Hema Malini from Rajya Sabha membership for allegedly providing "incorrect" information about her marital status.

In a complaint to the President sent on Friday in the form of a petition, copies of which were made available to the press here today, the complainants, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee's minority cell's vice chairman Akthar Beg and Indore city Congress unit vice president K K Mishra alleged that Hema Malini in her papers as Rajya Sabha member had allegedly mentioned the name of 'Deol Dharmendra' as her husband, while they have not yet made "public" any information about their marital status.

The complainants alleged that Hema Malini by providing "false and baseless" information about her marital status in the papers to the Upper House has committed a "fraud".

The congress leaders' advocate Shailendra Dwivedi has urged the President to terminate the membership for violating provisions of the Representation of the People Act and also for providing "false and baseless" information and committing "fraud" on the Indian constitution, democracy and the Upper House.
