The PIL has been filed in the wake of the alleged racial assault on Arunachal teenager Nido Tania who later succumbed to his injuries.

The seven advocates who are petitioners in the PIL are from the Northeast. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi mentioned the petition before a bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam who said it would be heard on February 14.

Calling the crime of racial discrimination a “menace to the society,” the PIL said such acts violate the human rights of every person.

“Most people from the region, who return to their states, have one or two tales of horrid, proportions where they have been discriminated, taunted, molested, raped and even murdered,” it said.
