Pilgrims continue to pour in for Amaranath Yatra

Devotees continued to throng the city, as another batch of around 2,000 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for their onward journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir.

Devotees continued to throng the city, as another batch of around 2,000 pilgrims left the Jammu base camp for their onward journey to the cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir.

A convoy of 65 vehicles carrying 1,974 devotees left the Yatri Niwas at Bhagwati Nagar at around 5:00 AM for Kashmir to pay obeisance at the holy cave shrine in the Himalayan range, police said.

The batch included 1,396 men, 455 women and 23 children, apart from 100 sadhus, they said.

With today's batch, a total of 25,358 pilgrims have left Jammu base camp for Amarnath so far.

Over one lakh pilgrims performed darshan of the holy ice lingam at the cave shrine till last evening, the officials said.
