Following the accident of two women students, who were hit by a motorcycle-borne outsider recently, the AU authorities have agreed in principle to beef up the varsity security.

The university authorities are planning to bar the entry of vehicles to the science faculty campus from the varsity gate located on the GT Road near the Nehru Science Complex. The plans are also afoot to erect a barrier at one end and make a parking lot to ban the entry of people who do not possess identity cards.

The officials concerned have also decided to carry out more frequent and extensive identity card checking drive to stop the entry of outsiders and trouble makers.

The Allahabad University (AU) Proctorial Board held a meeting on Thursday and took a number of important decisions.

Talking to HT, AU proctor Prof Jata Shankar said a decision to recommend the closure of one of the science faculty gates located near the Nehru Science Complex was taken in the meeting.

“The Proctorial Board will recommend construction of a vehicle stand and installation of barriers to stop the entry of vehicles on the science faculty campus. The need for this was being felt for the past many months but some members were against the idea and the plan could not be implemented.

However, this time we will enforce the plans with the support of the AU vice-chancellor,” he added.

Prof Jata Shankar said officials would now carry out frequent I-card checking drive on various campuses, he added.
