EVEN AS the theatre fraternity gears up to celebrate the World Theatre Day on March 27, different theatre groups involving more than 100 artistes are busy rehearsing their plays as part of the celebrations.

These artistes have kept all other activities at bay and are rehearsing to make the event a success, says Rakesh Sethi of Rangadhar Theatre Group. The Rangadhar group is organising a seven-day theatre bonanza at Bharat Bhavan from March 27. “Most of the plays at the fest have a humorous background. Each play would be characterised with a different set of mood and fervour” Sethi said.

Noted television and cine artiste Rajeev Verma has shifted his film shooting dates and is busy carrying out the rehearsal of ‘Saalgirah’. The play is being directed by Ashok Bulani.

Sanjay Mehta, who is rehearsing on ‘Can’t Pay, Won’t Pay’, of Dario Fo, a Noble Prize winner, says “I had been making up my mind to enact this play for the last six months.” Nazeer Qureshi, who has directed classics like ‘Asarh Ka Ek Din’ and ‘Tughlaq’ is this time directing a comedy play ‘Bichchoo’.

Javed Zaidi and Adakar Shivani Shah are acting in this play. The theatre group of Alakhnandan is busy rehearsing on ‘Supanava Ke Sapna’ while Vibha Mishra is rehearsing for ‘Gudgobar Ganj’ with her artistes on the premises of Madhya Pradesh Kala Academy.

The plays that would be enacted at the fest are ‘Saalgirah’, ‘Ek Sansadiya Samiti Ki Uthak Baithak’, ‘Bichchu’, ‘Third Flag’, ‘Supnawa Ke Sapne’, ‘Can’t Pay! Won’t Pay!’ and ‘Gud Gobar Ganj’. So, we have here a platter of plays for the theatre lovers.
