The President's remark came after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee wondered if heart ailments and bad politics were linked in anyway.

The incidence of heart diseases would certainly decrease if those in politics pay more attention towards developing states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Orissa, Kalam said inaugurating the heart hospital and research centre in Lucknow.

Classifying politics into two -- developmental and political -- he said fighting and winning elections forms 30 per cent of politics.

The rest 70 per cent was about development and could be termed the ideal part of politics. If pursued, it would help heart ailments come down considerably, he said.
