What: A sequence directed by Ahmed Khan on a set at SNDT Studios, Juhu.
Vijay Raaz and Zakir Hussain watch from different corners.
Players for the day: Sunny Deol, Viveik Oberoi, Raaz, Hussain and a few dozen extras cheering when Khan orders 'Action'.
Scene and heard: It's a rare opportunity to be on the sets of a Sunny Deol starrer since the actor is known to be media-shy.
A still from the sets of Fool and Final
Created by veteran art director R Verman, a boxing ring with surrounding walls painted with colourful graffiti lines like 'Rock Body', 'Raw Battle' etc.
On the other side of the room is a high cabin with JD inscribed on the front. "This is the cabin of the owner JD (Zakir Hussain)," says choreographer-director Khan. "He's essaying the role of the main villain."
Just then an assistant informs Khan that Deol has arrived. The unassuming and private Deol commands great respect from everyone around. Khan returns and checks if everything is ready for the take.
Deol plays a mechanic picked up by Oberoi and put into fights for some quick betting money.
"We're shooting Sunny's bout. Viveik comes over to tell him something. Throughout the film, every time Sunny is in the ring and Viveik comes over, something goes wrong," Khan says.
"The characters in the film want everything now, full and final, but something always goes wrong, hence the title Fool And Final. Sunny's character has helped Shahid Kapur, his mother Sharmila Tagore and their relative Om Puri get settled in their basti. Shahid, who plays a small time crook, is paired with Ayesha Takia," says Khan.
Deol and Oberoi enter and head straight for the ring. In the middle of the fight 'Lucky' (Oberoi) has to tell 'Munna' (Deol) something. Deol tells his opponent to wait a minute.
But the tattooed body-builder is unwilling to listen and continues showering blows on Deol.
Furious that his opponent is impatient, Deol turns towards him like a raging bull. "Cut it! Let's do it again," says Khan.
Starspeak: Having finished for the day, Oberoi leaves. The next shot is the beginning of the bout between Munna and the fighter.
Resuming his narration Khan says, "Sunny has saved Sameera Reddy from some goons, which paves the way for their frequent meetings and subsequent romance. Viveik is a fight-fixer named Lucky, but he's unlucky in everything he does. Here, before the fight begins, he wants to tell Sunny to lose the bout, but since Sunny is furious with his opponent's interruption, he knocks him out-cold in one punch, leading to Viveik losing his bet."
Deol delivers the perfect punch. As he turns, his opponent drops to the ground with a thud. The camera pans to Hussain in his cabin watching the fight.
"Perfect!" exclaims Khan. Deol, who was also in Khan's directorial debut Lakeer, packs up.
Incidentally, Khan wanted to work with Oberoi in Lakeer but as the actor didn't have the dates, John Abraham stepped. This time, everybody adjusted dates to match Deol's.
