Team Anna on Friday dismissed the CBI’s preliminary enquiry into the complaint on coal blocks allotments as a “pretence” meant to give Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a clean chit.

“The CBI is under the government. How will the agency investigate the PM? It’s laughable, it’s a pretence. We know the outcome of this probe. It will give a clean chit to Singh,” said Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal.

“We’ve said we are ready to be probed. Then why is the PM afraid? There is nothing wrong if the people suspect there was wrongdoing (in the allotments),” he said.
