PMT exam passes off peacefully in city

The Pre-Medical Test (PMT) examination for admission to Institute of Medical Sciences in Banaras Hindu University was conducted peacefully here in Varanasi on Wednesday. Besides Varanasi, the BHU-PMT examination was also held at Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad centres today.

More than 39,000 candidates reportedly appeared for 55 seats at all the four centres. The examination was conducted between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm. All the peripheral gates of BHU remained closed during the examination. Members of BHU Proctorial Board were deployed at all the examination centres to ensure a smooth conduct of examination.

Around 20,227 medical aspirants appeared in the examination at Delhi centre whereas about 13,049 aspirants took the examination at Varanasi centre. An estimated 3,378 candidates appeared for the PMT examination in Kolkata whereas an estimated 2,530 candidates appeared in Hyderabad. Mobile phones and other electronics gadgets were not allowed inside the examination centre.

A total of 31 examination centres were set up in the entire city to ensure that the exam go off smoothly. As many as 19 centres were set up on BHU premises whereas rest of the examination centres were set up in other parts of the city.

BHU had sent its observers to Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad centres to ensure a smooth and fair conduct of the PMT examination. Officials of district administration were also roped in to monitor the conduct of examination.
