Police commando hurt in shootout with gang in Rohtak

An inter-state criminal was killed and a Delhi police commando was injured during a shootout between a joint team of Delhi and Haryana police and a gang of criminals in Rohtak on Tuesday.

An inter-state criminal was killed and a Delhi police commando was injured during a shootout between a joint team of Delhi and Haryana police and a gang of criminals in Rohtak on Tuesday.

Three men were arrested after the encounter while eight others managed to escape. The gang had planned to kill a local property dealer Naresh Kala and his wife Rajo Devi, who is contesting municipal elections in the Haryana town . Kala, who has a criminal background, is vice-president of the Jat Education Society in Haryana.

SN Shrivastava, special CP (special cell), said Delhi police commando Satish sustained a bullet injury and he is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. His condition is stated to be out of danger.

According to Shrivastava, they had been watching criminal gangs in UP and Haryana. During this surveillance, they got wind of the plot to kill Kala and his wife.

"The information was shared with a senior police officer in Rohtak and Delhi police offered to provide assistance in nabbing the criminals," said Shrivastava.

MM Oberai, joint CP (special cell), said investigation revealed that the couple could have been killed while filing nomination papers for the municipal elections.

"Our team learnt that the criminals will assemble near additional deputy collector's office. Our joint team took positions and spotted 12 criminals. As soon we tried to arrest them, some of them opened fire. The fire was returned in which one of the criminals was shot. A commando of our team was also injured," said Oberai.
