Police file chargesheet in Naxal case against 11 in Surat

The Special Investigation Team probing network of CPI (Maoist) in the state has filed a 1,800-page chargsheet against 11 persons in the district rural court here.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing network of CPI (Maoist) in the state has filed a 1,800-page chargsheet against 11 persons in the district rural court here.

"A chargesheet has been filed against 11 persons arrested for alleged Naxal link in the court in Surat rural," District Superintendent of Police Navsari Premvir Singh, who is heading the SIT, said.

Out of the 12 persons arrested in the case, the chargesheet has been filed against 11.

According to the chargesheet, all the accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) which include criminal conspiracy (120B), waging war against government (121A), Sedition (124A), promoting enmity between different groups (153A).

Besides this, they have also been booked under the Section of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Gujarat police had in February this year filed a first comprehensive FIR against CPI (Maoist) in the state to investigate their plans, activities and to identify persons involved in spreading the banned organisation in South Gujarat region.
