The kidnappers were lying in wait for him and they drove towards Indore. Luckily for the victim, one of the villagers saw the kidnapping and informed Khurel police station TI Salim Sheikh. He also informed the TI about the identity of the abductors. Search parties were dispatched immediately to nab the accused.

Police found out that Babu Singh’s sister’s-in-law lived at Panda village, falling under Kishanganj police station and thought that Babu Singh might possibly go there along with the kidnapped Sarpanch.

Kishanganj police were informed and, led by SI Ashok Shrivastava, a team reached the house of Banne Singh, a senior Congress leader and an aide of MLA Antar Singh Darbar. Banne Singh’s brother is married to Babu Singh’s sister.

Soon after the police party reached Banne Singh’s house they saw Babu Singh, Gokul Singh, Virendra Singh coming towards the house. Seeing the police, Babu Singh attempted to flee, but was chased and arrested by the police. The other two did not attempt to run and were arrested and Bhuvan was rescued.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Bhuvan said that Umariya Khurd was a village where Thakurs were the dominant community and were also in a majority. However, the Sarpanch seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribe and Bhuvan, a poor tribal, was elected as Sarpanch. Babu Singh, a close relative of senior Congress leader Banne Singh, spent Rs 10,000 in Bhuvan’s election campaign.

Babu Singh thought that Bhuvan would be under obligation and would act as his puppet while taking decisions as Sarpanch. However, things did not work out as planned by Babu Singh, and the latter made one Hariom Singh his representative to look after all affairs of the panchayat.

This annoyed Babu Singh who had an eye on the development funds of the panchayat and he started threatening Bhuvan of dire consequences if he didn’t abide by his directions. And, to teach him a lesson and to recover the Rs 10,000 he had spent on his election, Babu Singh kidnapped Bhuvan.
