Leela Krishnamurthy Ponappa, a former ambassador to Thailand, was on Thursday appointed deputy national security adviser and secretary of the National Security Council Secretariat for a period of two years.

Her selection was cleared by the appointment committee of the cabinet.
Ponappa, an additional secretary, had also served as India's ambassador to Netherlands and was joint secretary in charge of the Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar section.
Christy Fernandez, an IAS officer of the 1973 batch, was appointed as secretary in the ministry of tourism.
