Ponting makes debut as dual captain
Ricky Ponting will make his debut officially as both Test and one-day captain when he leads Australia's limited-overs side in the tri-series tournament including India and Zimbabwe.

Ricky Ponting will make his debut officially as both Test and one-day captain when he leads Australia's limited-overs side in the tri-series tournament including India and Zimbabwe.
He takes over as test captain for Steve Waugh when Waugh retires after the fourth test against India beginning Friday. Ponting's first assignment as Test captain should be February's Sri Lanka tour.
Australia opens the one-day tournament on Jan. 9 against India in Melbourne, then plays Zimbabwe on Jan. 11 in Sydney.
The Australian team named Wednesday: Ricky Ponting (captain), Adam Gilchrist (vice captain), Michael Bevan, Andrew Bichel, Nathan Bracken, Michael Clarke, Jason Gillespie, Ian Harvey, Matthew Hayden, Brad Hogg, Brett Lee, Damien Martyn, Andrew Symonds.
