Power crisis affects life in several city localities
DETERIORATING POWER supply has affected life in different parts of the city. Irate citizens blocked the main Allahabad-Lucknow route in Teliyarganj locality on Wednesday evening following no power supply in the areas, including Govindpur, Shivkuti, Salori, Mehdauri, Teliyarganj, TB Colony, Rasoolabad, Chandpur Salori and Om Gayatri Nagar.

Irate citizens blocked the main Allahabad-Lucknow route in Teliyarganj locality on Wednesday evening following no power supply in the areas, including Govindpur, Shivkuti, Salori, Mehdauri, Teliyarganj, TB Colony, Rasoolabad, Chandpur Salori and Om Gayatri Nagar.
Power supply which went off on Wednesday morning at 6 am could be restored only at 11.30 pm.
The road blockade was lifted after the police intervened in the matter.
Residents expressed their anger against the district administration for its failure to ensure supply of electricity and drinking water in mela area on the day of important annual festival of the city, known as Shivkuti Mela.
On the other hand, officials of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd said that power supply to Teliyarganj and New MES sub-stations was affected because of 33 KVA underground cable fault between Minto Road and Teliyarganj sub-stations.
Fault was detected in evening after a marathon search by the UPPCL team.
Residents flayed the UPPCL authorities for making claims that existing supply system was overhauled completely under the Accelerated Power Reform Development Scheme. Congress leader Mukund Tiwari has demanded a probe into the work carried out under this scheme.
It may be recalled that Teliyarganj power sub-station faced similar problem of underground cable fault in June last.
The supply was disrupted due to underground fault in 33 KV line connected with Minto Road.
Besides, the entire city is facing power cuts during evening hours due to several factors.
When contacted, Deputy General Manager of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd Shakti Singh said that power supply had been improved in the city in comparison to other cities after arrival of monsoon.
The UPPCL Deputy GM claimed that there were no power rostering in evening and local faults were also lesser in comparison to previous year.
