Power failure has been reported from several areas in the city since Saturday morning. Moreover, rostering at night hours is affecting students preparing for the Board and university examinations.

Besides the scheduled power cuts, Lanka, Durgakund, Assi, Bhadani, Rajghat, Sarnath, Chauk, Cantt, Beniabagh and other localities were facing acute power crisis for the past couple of days.

Even on Makar Sankranti, there was power rostering for 8 to 10 hours in the day. Technical fault at the Ladhupur-Dubakia power station was stated to be the reason for power failure.

Purvanchal Power Corporation deputy general manager SLS Bhatnagar said one of the two transformers of 40MW was defunct, therefore, the city was supplied power through one transformer. The defunct transformer was being repaired, he added.
