Power crisis: Restive citizens give vent to ire

IN ANOTHER violent demonstration protesting power crisis, members of Dakshin Vyapar Mandal Samanvya Samiti dragged a KESCo engineer out of the Sujanpur substation and forced him to stand in the scorching sun. The mob also tore the duty register of the substation and damaged KESCo vehicles. The agitators also emptied the petrol tanks of private vehicles of KESCo officials.

Later, a memorandum was handed over to the KESCo engineer by the vyapar mandal.

In another such demonstration, nurses of Hallet Hospital staged a demonstration outside the office of Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) PN Vajpayee against the excessive power cut in their hostel. Nurses gheraoed the CMS office and shouted slogans against him and the State Government. However, Vajpayee expressed his helplessness in streamlining the power supply of the hostel and stated that it was beyond his capacity. However, he promised to convey the grievance of the nurses to KESCo officials.

Meanwhile, the entire city reeled under acute power crisis for more than 16 hours. Power supply to the entire city was snapped at 1 am on Tuesday and was restored at 5.30 am. Then again power supply to the entire city was snapped at 8 am and was restored only after 4 pm. Apart from this almost the entire city faced power crisis for additional four hours due to local faults, tripping and overloading. The crisis was more severe in southern parts of the city.
