THERE SEEMS to be no respite for Kanpurites from power crisis. Once again the entire city is reeling under acute power cuts for about 15 hours.
Night rostering is back again. The city is being subjected to three to four hours of night rostering. The situation has deteriorated in the last fortnight and the entire city is being subjected to 13 to 15 hours of power cuts on any given day.
Power supply in the city is snapped at 7 am and people sweat it out till 2.30 pm when it is restored. Again in the evening power supply in several parts of the city is snapped for about four hours in phases.
This is not the end of the ordeal of hapless citizens and they are forced to face power cut from 1 am to 5 am. The crisis is quite often further compounded by local faults. A mild shower for even half-an-hour results in disruption of power supply in the entire city and increase in local faults.
Kesco officials, however, attribute this power crisis to an increase in demand and rostering from the State Capital.
Southern areas of the city continue to be the worst hit by the power crisis.
Almost the entire southern part of the city is facing power cut for about 16 hours. Overloading and tripping has aggravated the crisis in south city. In addition to normal rostering hours, power supply of the south city is aggravated by local faults and transformer failures.
The worst affected areas of the south city include Kidwai Nagar, Saket Nagar, Govind Nagar, Barra, Naubasta, Ratan Lal Nagar, Juhi, Baradevi, Gujaini and Dabouli among several other areas.
A senior Kesco official pointed out that on several occasions senior officials of Power Corporation have been apprised of the dismal power scenario but to no avail.
“Only assurances have been given to us and no step has been taken by the concerned UPPCL authorities to curtail night rostering in the city,” added the official.
Whatever may be cause of power cuts the ultimate sufferers are hapless citizens who have no alternative but to endure it.
