State Congress spokesman Manak Agarwal told reporters in Bhopal that violence erupted as soon as Patel began his election campaign in Rohna village of Chhindwara constituency where he has been pitted against senior Congress leader Kamal Nath.
Blaming Patel for Friday's violence, he alleged that some supporters of Kamalnath were injured in the incident "which was engineered to create an explosive situation in Chhindwara".
Patel was involved in criminal cases in Narsinghpur, Balaghat and Seoni districts, Agarwal claimed adding law and order situation in Madhya Pradesh has been deteriorating since the BJP came to power in the state.
The Congress leader also lashed out at BJP-led government at the Centre saying its "feel good" campaign was aimed at misleading the people.
