Pranab resigns as W Bengal Cong president

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee today resigned as West Bengal Congress president in view of the poor performance of the party in the Assembly elections.

Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday resigned as West Bengal Congress president in view of the poor performance of the party in the Assembly elections.

In his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi, Mukherjee said, "Election results of West Bengal are declared. The performance of Congress is extremely poor. I own the responsibility and tender my resignation from the office of President, WBPCC with immediate effect."
