He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors said he was suffering from dehydration. The doctors advised him to rest till he felt better.

The rally began at Rampura in Murshidabad at 11 am. The area is part of Jangipur constituency, from where Abhijit was elected to the Lok Sabha.

Congress leaders said Abhijit sat down after walking for a while and said he was feeling ill. He then fell unconscious.

Abhijit was rushed to the Jangipur sub-divisional hospital.

“We have given him saline and he regained his senses. He has been advised to take rest at the hospital (till) he feels better. Although the weather in Murshidabad was cloudy since morning, primarily it seemed Abhijit Mukherjee suffered dehydration,” a doctor at the hospital said.

The rally was organised by the Congress to make people aware of a possible alliance between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
