It was unity in diversity, with the Muslims joining their Hindu brethren in offering fervent prayers to propitiate the rain god in Karnataka.
The prayers seem to have been answered with Bangalore and coastal interior parts of the state experiencing mild showers yesterday.
More than 2,000 Muslims converged at Idgah Maidan here yesterday, reciting verses from Koran seeking "forgiveness for the sins" and protection for all life forms in the universe. They prayed in unison for peace and harmony in the world.
The congregation was led by Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Tajuddin, Khazi of Siddique Arabic College, Mufti Basheer Ahmed and Noor Ahmed.
While the arrangements were taken care of by the General Secretary of the Idgah Maidan, Taj Mohammad Khan, police regulated traffic in the area till the programme ended.
Earlier, the government last weekend asked elected representatives to organise prayers at all places of worship, be it temple, mosque, church or a gurudwara, as a last resort to please the rain god, with the state facing an acute drinking water shortage.
