A PREGNANT woman lost her child due to alleged beating by sleuths of Excise department in Chabi village in Mandla district last night. According to sources, the Excise Department squad in a case related to illegal manufacturing of liquor searched the house of Ganesh Sahu in Chabi village, fifty five km from district headquarters last night.

They allegedly beat up pregnant wife of Ganesh Sahu during the search of the house. Meanwhile, senior officials reached the site but there was no report of taking the woman to hospital, sources added. Superintendent of Police Niranjan V Vayangankar, however, said the matter is under investigation and those found guilty would be punished.
