Preparations on for President?s visit

HECTIC PREPARATIONS are on for the visit of the President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on the campus of Banaras Hindu University here to address the 88th convocation of the varsity on March 3. The President will land at the BHU helipad from Babatpur and reach the venue of the convocation at Ruyia sports ground at 12 noon.

HECTIC PREPARATIONS are on for the visit of the President, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on the campus of Banaras Hindu University here to address the 88th convocation of the varsity on March 3. A landing trial of three helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and rehearsal of the entire convocation function was conducted by the authorities of the BHU and the district administration in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof Panjab Singh and District Magistrate Nitin Ramesh Gokaran here on Wednesday.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh wll be guest of honour at the convocation ceremony. The V-C will preside over the function.

Sources said that the Governor would also be present on the occasion to welcome the President. Chairman of Power Grid Corporation of India RP Singh and eminent plastic surgeon Prof. Muneer of Chennai would awarded degrees of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) at the convocation.

Chief Proctor Prof SK Singh informed that the 5,800 graduates, post-graduates and Ph.D scholars would be conferred degrees by the President for 2005. He said the district and varsity administration had jointly been looking after the security arrangements for the function.

He added that a grand pandal had been erected in an area of 10,000 square metres with a capacity of accomodating 10,000 persons, on the Ruiya ground for the convocation function.

The proposed visit of Dr. Kalam will be his second visit to the BHU. Earlier, Dr. Kalam had visited the BHU during the convocation function of Institute of Technology in the year 1991 and was awarded Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) degree.

Entrepreneur awareness camp
TO MAKE students aware of the advantages of becoming an entrepreneur, a three-day ‘Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp’ was inaugurated at the Chemical Engineering and Technology Department in the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University here on Wednesday.

The Institute Industry Partnership Cell of IT, in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (Northern Region) and National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology of Government of India has organised the awareness camp.

Prof. KK Srivastava, who was the chief guest at the inaugural function, exhorted the students to become entrepreneurs. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar and Dr. Rajeev of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India informed the audience about the activities of their organisation.

Chief coordinator of the Institute Industry Partnership Cell of IT, Dr. PK Mishra welcomed the guests and dwelt upon the course content of the three-day camp. Dr. Pradeep Srivastava and Dr. Abha Mishra proposed the vote of thanks.
