It is a matter of pride that India’s nomination of the ‘Rig Veda’ has been accepted by UNESCO for its heritage list of ‘Memory of World Register’. Only recently, the US Senate began its session with Vedic hymns. It is high time the Indian government initiated steps to popularise Sanskrit not only in India but globally. It is unfortunate that the government did not effectively utilise UNESCO’s initial allocation of Rs 5 crores for preserving the Ramlila, Vedic-chanting and Kuttiyattam.
