Film trade buzz suggests Priyanka Chopra’s been paid Rs 6 crore to star opposite Uday Chopra for Pyaar Impossible, a forthcoming Yashraj film. Of course, no one officially talks money in Bollywood, least of all the actors.

By all accounts, if true, this makes Ms Chopra the highest paid female actor in a male-dominated industry. Others too have come a long way, baby. Check out their price menu.

About seven years ago, Karan Johar cast Preity Zinta for Nikhil Advani-directed Kal Ho Na Ho because Kareena Kapoor refused to cut down her price.

Circa 2009: Buzz is that Yash Raj Films is paying Priyanka Chopra Rs 6 crore for the Uday Chopra starrer, Pyaar Impossible, directed by Jugal Hansraj. If the rumour is true, it would make her the highest paid Bollywood actress, ahead of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who’s believed to have got Rs 5 crore for the forthcoming Rajnikanth blockbuster, Entiraman.

According to an inside source, the reason for Priyanka’s hefty remuneration is that director Jugal Hansraj is not yet a name to reckon with and neither is Uday Chopra a big draw. Also Yash Raj Films hasn’t had a dream run at the box office of late. “Priyanka, playing a sex siren, could bring in the audience, so what’s wrong if she asks Rs 6 crore?” reasons the source.

Priyanka is non-committal on the subject: “I can’t talk about my remuneration, I never have and never will.”
