Pro-quota activists want immediate reservation
The Pro-committee proposed to hold state-wide rallies and demonstrations on June 6, to press for its demands.
Pro-reservationists on Sunday staged a demonstration in Chennai demanding promulgation of an ordinance immediately for 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in elite educational institutions from this June.
Doctors Association for Social Equality (DASE), a Post Graduates Association and medical students under the banner of Campaign Committee for Reservations (CCRs) demanded that the ordinance should be for the whole 27 per cent reservation and not in a phased manner.
Stating that the centre should ensure that any addition of seats in higher education institutions would be covered under the reservation policy, DASE General Secretary Dr GR Ravindranath said that the CCRs would oppose any move by the centre to increase only non-reserved category seats.
The committee proposed to hold state-wide rallies and demonstrations on June six to press for its demands, he said.
DASE Vice President Dr A Seppan led the demonstration. Others present included Dr Ravindranath and PGs Association President Pon Raja Rajan.
