Prof Raj Shekhar is AU?s new Commerce dean
HEAD OF the Allahabad University?s Commerce Department Prof Raj Shekhar has been appointed the new dean of the Faculty of Commerce. He received a communication in this regard from the registrar Prof US Rai on Tuesday. He will formally take charge from outgoing dean (Commerce) Prof Alka Agarwal on Wednesday.
HEAD OF the Allahabad University’s Commerce Department Prof Raj Shekhar has been appointed the new dean of the Faculty of Commerce. He received a communication in this regard from the registrar Prof US Rai on Tuesday. He will formally take charge from outgoing dean (Commerce) Prof Alka Agarwal on Wednesday.
The deanship at AU is on a rotational basis among senior professors of a particular faculty. The incumbent holds office for a period of three years from the date of his or her appointment. Prof Alka Agarwal of the Economics Department had assumed charge as the dean (Commerce) from Prof PN Mehrotra of the Economics Department in 2003.
“I received a communication from the registrar about my appointment as the dean (Commerce) by AU Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajen Harshe on Tuesday afternoon. The formal handing and taking over of charge will take place on Wednesday,” said Prof Raj Shekhar.
Incidentally, the Commerce Faculty comprises the Commerce and Business Administration Department, as well as the Economics Department. Prof Raj Shekhar’s appointment is one of the rare instances in the history of AU that the office of the dean of the Faculty will be held by a professor who does not hold a masters degree in any of the disciplines comprising the faculty. Prof Shekhar is MA (Sociology).
