Proposal to increase metro trains and coaches

Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) plans to induct 10 trains over the next two years, Union Minister for Urban Development Ajay Maken said on Thursday.

DMRC planned to induct six trains, each comprising four coaches (24 coaches) in this financial year and four more trains, each comprising four coaches (16 coaches) in the next fiscal.

These coaches would be partly manufactured, assembled and tested at Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, Bangalore, by consortium of Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan), Rotem (Korea) and Melco (Japan).

An expenditure of about Rs 140 crore in 2006-07 and Rs 90 crore in 2007-08 would be incurred.

At present DMRC has 60 trains, each comprising four coaches, that was a total of 240 coaches.
