In a message on the 'De Jure Transfer day', Chief Minister N Rangasamy said that it was the duty of every one to pay great homage to all the freedom fighters who worked for the freedom of Puducherry.

All government offices, educational institutions and banks remained closed in Puducherry and its enclaves Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam.

As part of the celebration, freedom fighters will be given away mementos and gift hampers by the Chief Minister.

The forum of Freedom of Puducherry had urged the Chief Minister recently to hike the monthly pension given to them from Rs 3,000 from Rs 4,000.
