A henchman of dreaded gangster Hemant Pujari was gunned down in an encounter with the Crime Branch officials near Chikuwadi on Borivli Link Road on Thursday.

Subash Shetty (43) was in the area to threaten another builder to extort money. Based on the tip-off, sleuths of Mumbai crime branch laid a trap and asked Shetty to surrender.
But Shetty who was armed with two revolvers fired six rounds at the police. In the retaliatory fire, Shetty was injured grievously. He was taken to Bhagwati Hospital where he was declared dead before admission.
Avinash Dharmadhikari, assistant police inspector, said: “Shetty was wanted in at least nine cases. He was also involved in Sukesh Shetty’s murder at a bar in Bandra (East).”
On May 2007, Sukesh Shetty who had turned an informer and had helped police crack down on Hemant Pujari, was shot dead. Crime Branch officials said Subash had opened fire at a jeweller in Borivli last year and has about four such cases against him.
