Congress on Saturday suffered a severe jolt in Haryana when HPCC vice-president and former Minister Dr KR Punia resigned from the party and joined the BJP after charging HPCC President and former Haryana Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal with "high-handedness."
Dr Punia, a former IAS officer, announced his decision to join the BJP at a press conference held at the residence of BJP candidate Capt Abhimanyu in the presence of state BJP president and former Minister Prof Ganeshi Lal, Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala's younger brother and former Minister Ranjit Singh and State BJP General Secretary Vir Kumar Yadav.
Dr. Punia claimed that Bhajan Lal had telephoned him and asked him to campaign for his son in Bhiwani instead of seeking votes for the Congrss nominee, Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Rohtak.
He claimed that Bhajan Lal even threatened to expel him from the party after the Lok Sabha elections.
