In the assembly during the legislative business, the house unanimously passed the Punjab Privately Managed Recognised Schools Employees (Security of service), the Punjab School Education Board (Amendment), the Punjab Municipal fund (Amendment) and the Punjab Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bills.

Introducing the VAT Bill, leader of house and chief minister Parkash Singh Badal said that at present the VAT was being collected from the IOC and then VAT on value addition is deposited by various petroleum dealers located in the state.

He said that presently there were 2400 petroleum dealers in the state.

Badal said "the department is proposing to collect the VAT on value addition also at source on all petroleum dealers."

Besides, the brick industry in the state was paying sales tax on lumpsum basis for many years. After the introduction of VAT, neighbouring Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have given the option to the Brick klin industry to pay VAT on lumpsum basis.

"On the request of Brick Klin association, the department intends to impose lumpsum tax on brick klins," he said.
