Punjab CM says 50 killed in train mishap

Amarinder made statement in the state assembly as the House met on the opening day of its brief winter session.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has put the number of those killed in the head on collision between two passenger trains near Mukerian at 50 and of injured at around 150.

Singh made this statement in the state assembly on Tuesday afternoon as the House met on the opening day of its brief winter session.

There has been substantial damage to four bogies of the two trains, he said.

The House observed silence for two minutes.

The Chief Minister and the Assembly Speaker Kewal Krishan were rushing to the spot.

Mukerian is also the assembly constituency of the Speaker.
