Quick working to be a gift for AU students

PROCTOR'S OFFICE is all set to emerge as the first fully computerised office of the 119-year-old Allahabad University from the forthcoming academic session. Thanks to the move, the students will no longer have to wait for five to seven days for their identity cards, character certificates or parking stand tokens. PROCTOR'S OFFICE is all set to emerge as the first fully computerised office of the 119-year-old Allahabad University from the forthcoming academic session.

Thanks to the move, the students will no longer have to wait for five to seven days for their identity cards, character certificates or parking stand tokens.

Now, they will be able to get these papers on the very day they submit their applications.

"Our plan to is fully computerise the Proctor's Office and for the purpose we have engaged the services of some experts belonging to a Lucknow-based firm.

The aim is to have a sturdy network inter-connecting the computers of the office and use a specially designed software to streamline our day-to-day working for the benefit of the students," informed AU Proctor Prof Jata Shankar.

Prof Shankar said that at present a 15-day training programme for the Proctor's office staff, including the office assistants and the clerks, was underway and the first phase would conclude on June 15.

"More training sessions will be organised to further train our staff as per need and once the new academic session starts the experts will help guide our staff till they become confident in handling the work independently.

Once this is achieved, this office will become the first one in AU to be completely computerised shunning all manually performed tasks," the Proctor said.

He said that the office had seven computers that would be networked through a server.

"The technical aspects have been looked into by the experts and we are already in advanced stage of transforming into a computerised office. We are even ready to procure more computer systems if needed," Prof Jata Shankar added.

He said that the initial ground work for the computerisation of the office was performed by his predecessor Prof HN Mishra that he was now trying to implement in the office.

"The students had to wait for five to seven days to get hold of their identity cards or character certificates from the date of submission of their applications till now.

But once our plans get fully implemented, the students will be able to get the computerised cards or token within a few hours on the same day and that too without having to struggle in a heavy rush of fellow students," he said.

Prof Jata Shankar said that the entire process of computerisation of the office was being done with the help of the funds collected by his office by way of money collected from the students for I-cards and parking stand tokens.
