Quota issue: BHU staff on one day strike

The medicos will call a "Banaras Bandh" later this week and consultations for this are on among the striking doctors.

Medical services in the Sir Sunderlal Hospital under the Banaras Hindu University came to a grinding halt on Wednesday with the teaching community proceeding on a day's strike in support of the anti-quota stir by medicos.

About 140 teachers struck work and paralysed medical facilities at the hospital, including the OPD, Resident Doctors Association Coordinator Shashi Kumar Mishra said.

The medicos also threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike from Thursday against the proposed 27 per cent reservations for OBCs in elite educational institutions, he said.

The medicos will call a "Banaras Bandh" later this week and consultations for this are on among the striking doctors, traders and other social and student organisations for finalisation of a date.
