Talking to media persons on Thursday, Dr. Shukla said that reservation was a historical requirement of the country, but it should be extended to the needy persons at grassroots level. “There should be some clear cut standard about who is entitled for reservation and who is not,” he said, adding “Without isolating creamy layer, one can never imagine to raise standard of deprived classes through reservation.” Expressing dissatisfaction over extending reservation on the basis of census of 1931, Dr Shukla said that a new census was required to assess the actual social fabric of the country. He alleged the UPA Government was trying to divert the attention of common men from their basic problem through its decision of enhancing reservation for OBCs.
“Caste-based reservation would widen the gap between different section of Hindu Samaj,” he said. Dr. Shukla, also a faculty member at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, said that ABVP would launch a massive nationwide campaign at campus level to generate awareness among youths about reservation in the month of July this year.
He claimed that the Union government has failed on various fronts such as economic growth, national security and job opportunities to unemployed youths.
He said that the Union government made an estimate of 9.47 per cent unemployment growth in the fiscal year 2006-07, which was an all time high in the country.
He claimed that although the Union government has introduced Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, but there were no sufficient funds to implement this scheme.
