Gujarat government on Wednesday increased the quota of foodgrains from prevailing two kgs to five kgs, under 'Food for Work' scheme for labourers in relief works in 6,111 villages of the state reeling under acute scarcity.

The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, official sources said here.
Nearly 8.57 lakh labourers are presently engaged in 3,660 relief works and till date 6,584 works have been completed even as forty lakh litres of water is being supplied to scarcity hit areas of Dwarka, Khambhalia and Okha talukas through trains, the sources added.
