Rahul has to prove his innocence: Munde

There were various opinions within the BJP about admitting Rahul to the party, Munde said on Sunday.

Rahul Mahajan will have to fight the legal battle in his drug abuse case and prove his innocence before he can be admitted to the BJP, his uncle and party leader Gopinath Munde has said.

There were various opinions within the BJP about admitting Rahul to the party, Munde said on Sunday. He was in Muzaffarnagar on a private visit.

Admitting that Rahul had expressed interest in joining the BJP after his father Pramod Mahajan's death, Munde said the situation had changed after his nephew was arrested for alleged drug abuse.

"He is innocent and will fight it out legally to prove himself innocent," he said.

Replying to a query, Munde said the statement to police by Pramod Mahajan's brother Pravin has no relevance, as he was the "murderer" of the former Union minister.

Munde also said the internal differences in the Shiv Sena would not affect the BJP in Maharashtra.
