Zulqarnain secured 40 votes out of a total of 50 votes in an electorate comprising members of the Legislative Assembly and the Kashmir Council.
Senior leader of ruling Muslim Congress Raja Zulqarnain Khan was on Thursday elected the next President of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Zulqarnain secured 40 votes out of a total of 50 votes in an electorate comprising members of the Legislative Assembly and the Kashmir Council.
His nearest rival Qamar uz Zaman of opposition Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) bagged six votes.
Two opposition groups Peoples Muslim League and Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Party boycotted the voting alleging rigging by the Muslim Conference which returned to power by winning majority seats in the PoK Assembly.
Zulqarnain will take oath next month.
After his election Zulqarnain said he will try to take all the opposition groups with him and that the new government will focus on the reconstruction process in the quake-hit PoK.
